Illustrating Modern Floriography

Illustrating my new book, #modernfloriography, was an absolute joy every step of the way, but it was also absolute insanity too, because I learned to paint just for this book. I know...crazy right? I took lessons from the best of the best for several years, and I am so grateful for the sheer talent of this artist and her ability to impart her knowledge and expertise to me in such a wonderful and beautiful way. I am forever grateful, and she is my dear friend now. 

But with this post I intended to share a little bit of my process in illustrating the book, and specifically, the 'bench that almost killed me!' The Lutyens bench--yes, I had to have it in the book. Probably not the best choice for me, as somewhat of a novice illustrator, but hey, I love a challenge...except for this one. It really did drive me nuts! But, just look at the finished product (I think it was 7 benches later that I finally nailed it!) that took it's place in the book ...finally.📖🥰
