Castle House Bloody Mary Mix Recipe

This is simply the best homemade Bloody Mary Mixer there is! And when you've got an abundance of late summer tomatoes that need a use, AND you're tired of canning tomato sauce, then here's a fantastic solution.

This recipe will make approximately 4 quarts.  You can keep stored in the refrigerator or you can also can it up.  I usually double this recipe so that I can can the mix and give away as gifts during the holidays.

Here's what you'll need;

8 lbs tomatoes, quartered

1 large green bell pepper

3 carrots

3 ribs celery

4 garlic cloves, minced

1 bu fresh parsley, roughly chopped

3 small banana pepper

1 inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and sliced

1/4 c. sugar

1/2 c. fresh lemon juice

1 1/2 T. salt

1/2 T. pepper

1/2 T. tabasco sauce

1 T. Worcestershire sauce

Finely chop the green pepper, celery, garlic, and banana peppers.  Add to a large stock pot with the quartered tomatoes and ginger. Add enough water to barely cover and bring to a low boil for 30-45 min.

In small batches, pour mix into blender and blend thoroughly. Work all the way through all the mix, and then pour everything back to the stockpot, and add the sugar, lemon juice, salt and pepper, tabasco sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Heat back up to a simmer and then remove from heat.

Pour into a container and chill until use or canning.

To make a Bloody Mary, add 2 oz of Vodka to a glass filled with ice, then top with mixer, and stir well.  Garnish of your preference, but a sprig of celery and green pimento stuffed olives are my favorite.

Enjoy and drink responsibly!
